Australian spinner Adam Zampa was not pleased with Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib, faking cramps in order to waste time during the Super 8 match against Bangladesh. Naib appeared to have suffered cramps during Bangladesh’s run-chase. Zampa claimed it to be “old raintsring”. Australia were eliminated from the second round after Afghanistan’s victory over Bangladesh . Gulbadin was slammed by former players for his fake injury.

The incident happened before the start of rain when Bangladesh were 81 for 7 and two-run behind the par score. Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott signalled the players to slow down proceedings and Naib fell on the ground. Rashid Khan was not happy with his all-rounder.

Had the match not started, Afghanistan would have won the match by 2 runs as per the DLS method. Afghanistan’s win took them to the semi-finals of the tournament, with Australia heading back home. Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull lambasted Gulbadin.

“The coach sends a message and the first slip dives on the ground. That is unacceptable,” Doull said.

Rashid defended Gulbadin for his controversial injury. “He had some cramps and this can happen to anyone. I am not aware of what is going on social media. It didn’t impacted the game as we were back on the field in five minutes. It was an injury and needed some attention.”
