Rain has disrupted the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Rain broke out after Afghanistan's innings. Afghanistan finished its innings by scoring 115 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. That means it has given Bangladesh a target of 116 runs. But, will the rain after Afghanistan's innings allow this match to be completed? If the rest of the game is not completed, what will happen to the hopes of Afghanistan, Australia and Bangladesh? For whom will the match being washed out due to rain prove to be a boon?
There is no doubt that many such questions must be running in the minds of cricket fans. The equation before the rain was that Afghanistan can reach the semi-finals only by winning. For Australia, Afghanistan's defeat means Bangladesh's victory is necessary but the margin of that victory should be small. On the other hand, if Bangladesh chases the target given by Afghanistan in 12.1 overs, then it can reach the semi-finals.
But, now that there is heavy rain in St. Vincent, what will be the future of the match? What will happen if the rest of the Afghanistan-Bangladesh match is not completed due to rain? According to the new equation, rain will prove to be a boon for Afghanistan. That means if the Afghanistan-Bangladesh match is not completed due to rain, then Rashid Khan's team will get the license to play the semi-finals for the first time.
This is because the points of the match will be divided between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. And, in that case, Afghanistan will have 3 points and Bangladesh will have 1 point in the points table. Which means that Australia, which has only 2 points, will also be out of the race for the semi-finals.
By the way, the good news for cricket and fans coming from St. Vincent is that the rain has stopped and the ground staff has started their work on the pitch. From here onwards, if it does not rain further, then the match will be completed.
But, if the rain still disrupts the match, then Afghanistan may hit a jackpot. But, if the rain still disrupts the match, then Afghanistan may hit a jackpot.
