India are set to play their final Super 8 match in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday, 24 June. India have already won two matches in the Super 8 stage and will confirm their place in the semi-finals if they beat Australia in their next match.
The match is expected to be played in good batting conditions, but there is no denying that the Caribbean pitches have started to exhibit their sluggish nature. India assistant coach Paras Mhambrey was asked at the pre-match press conference if India could play four spinners in their starting line-up in case the conditions support spin. Replying to the question, Mhambrey hoped that the surface would not be so biased towards spin that they have to play four spinners in the same line-up. India have played three spinners so far in the Caribbean leg of the tournament. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja were in the Indian line-up from the very start. Kuldeep Yadav was included in the line-up from the Super 8 stages. "It all depends on what surface - I hope the surface won't be that spinner friendly I think going in yes three spinners, I think just add the balance but I'm not very sure all the other venues - in case, I'm saying I don't look like the surface is going to be that dry and going to turn so much but yeah if the surface is like that, there's a lot of wear and tear in the wicket yeah for a spinner if you think that's the best option you want to go and enter the game, you might as well go with it," Mhambrey said at the pre-match press conference. The assistant coach lauded Kuldeep Yadav's bowling ability and explained why the bowler was not kept in the playing XI in the group stage of the tournament. Kuldeep Yadav has played just 2 matches in the T20 World Cup 2024 and has made himself undroppable with 5 wickets to his name. "He's always been a class bowler, he's always done well for us, always won games for us initially as well. But unfortunately, because of the kind of wickets that we played in the US, he couldn't get an opportunity, couldn't get a run. But good to see that he's come out last two games, he's done well. This was fabulous. I think he really bowled well, used the conditions very well and yeah, good to see that he's got in the run," Mhambrey said. India have a chance to knock out Australia from the tournament. In case India win against Australia, the Mitchell Marsh team will have to depend on the result of Bangladesh vs Afghanistan. In case Afghanistan in that encounter, Australia will get knocked out of the tournament. Conversely, if Bangladesh win, it will come down to the NRR in the group.
