West Indies allrounder Andre Russell made a surprise entry in the bowling deck by bowling the very second over of the inning which also paid off after he dismissed Steven Taylor for 2 runs.

West Indies was scheduled to play the second Super 8 match of the tournament against the United States on June 22 in Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Apart from losing their first game, West Indies faced another major setback after their aggressive opening batter Brandon King sustained an injury during the game against England.

Though Kyle Mayers has been officially approved as the replacement for the injured Brandon King, he was expected to join the squad on Saturday. On the other hand, the United States made a couple of changes in their playing 11 by including Milind Kumar and Shadley as replacements for Jessy and Shayan.

Both teams have failed to register a win in their respective first Super 8 matches of the tournament. United States and West Indies both will be keen to register their maiden victory of the round in order to stay alive in the semifinal race.

Speaking of the match. winning the toss, West Indies decided to bowl first where United States opening batters Steven Taylor and Andries Gous opened the inning. Steven Taylor who was at the striker’s end made a steady start by scoring just 2 runs in the first five balls he faced.

In the second over, Andre Russell dismissed Taylor for 2 runs and made an early breakthrough. With a wicket in the second over, United States gets under pressure to build a decent partnership in the powerplay. Nitish Kumar and Andries Gous started to build a partnership as expected.
