Suryakumar Yadav proved yet again why he is the No. 1 T20 batsman in the world by scoring a brilliant half-century and carrying India to the score of 181 in 20 overs.
His knock was crucial to India's victory as without him they wouldn't have even crossed the 150-run mark. Surya came out to bat when India had already lost Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant and were in a tense situation at 54/2. Soon, Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube also departed which made Surya take matters into his own hands.
The batsman orchestrated a brilliant partnership of 60 runs with Hardik Pandya to take India to a good total. In the process, Surya also matched a world record that was held by Kohli. As India comprehensively won the match by 47 runs, Surya was awarded with the man-of-the-match award for his knock of 53. This was the 15th time that the batsman had won the award in T20 format. Incidentally, that's also the all-time record, held by Kohli meaning that Surya is now level with the Indian great on the record. But what is fascinating is that Surya equaled the record in nearly half the innings. Kohli won 15 MOTM awards in 113 innings while Surya won them in 61 innings. 'That's what I have practiced, I enjoy batting from overs 7-15 because that's the most difficult phase where the opposition bowlers look to control things.
I like to take charge in that phase, I enjoy it,' Surya said during the innings break.
