The T20 World Cup 2024 is over for the Pakistan cricket team. Some players have returned to the country, while some players have gone out for sightseeing. However, the uproar over the poor performance of the team is still going on. On one hand, questions remain about Babar Azam's captaincy, while apart from Babar, there is a demand to oust many players from the T20 format. Apart from the players, if anyone is on the target, it is the selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which was on the target since the selection of the team for the World Cup. Action is now being seen on this selection committee.
According to ESPN-Cricinfo report, Pakistan Cricket Board is going to make cuts in the selection committee. Pakistan's selection committee currently has 7 members and some of them are going to lose their jobs now. Not only cuts, but there can also be changes in the members of the selection committee. Pakistan Board will soon review the team's poor performance in the World Cup, but apart from this, changes and reforms in the selection committee are also on its agenda.
The most well-known and discussed name in the Pakistani selection committee is that of Wahab Riaz. It is believed that Wahab can be removed from the selection committee. Before the World Cup, questions were being raised on his decision to bring players like Mohammad Aamir and Imad Wasim back from retirement and include them in the team and to select Azam Khan despite his fitness issues. The former legendary fast bowler of Pakistan was made the head of the selection committee after the ODI World Cup last year.
However, within 3-4 months, the PCB changed it and made the selection committee a 7-member body and eliminated the role of the chief selector. This move of the PCB did not bring any success and in such a situation, it is believed that the PCB can now change it again and restart the post of chief selector. As far as Babar Azam's captaincy is concerned, the report claims that there will be no decision on it at the moment. It is believed that the Pakistani board is not in any hurry regarding this decision as Pakistan has to play the next ODI-T20 series in November.
