IND vs AFG: The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma is on a winning spree in the T20 World Cup 2024. After remaining undefeated in the group stage, Team India registered a thumping win in the Super-8 match today i.e. on 20 June. India and Afghanistan (IND vs AFG) came face to face for the first time in the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite Rohit-Virat's flop, India set a target of 182 runs on the basis of Suryakumar Yadav's fifty. In response to which the Afghans faltered badly and could score only 134 runs.

Rohit-Virat failed once again

  • The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not been able to do wonders in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far.
    The highest partnership between the two in the tournament so far is only 22 runs.
  • Against Afghanistan, the first wicket fell at just 11 runs, Rohit Sharma (8) was dismissed while trying to play a big shot.
  • Fazalhaq Farooqui got him caught by Rashid. Rishabh Pant started counterattacking in his usual style.
  • But Rashid Khan trapped him with his googly on the last ball of the 7th over and got him LBW.
  • Virat Kohli held on at one end, but his innings did not have much impact.

IND vs AFG: Surya-Hardik took charge

    Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya handled the innings amid the continuous fall of wickets.

Afghan team lost 5 wickets for 71 runs

  • In the run chase of 181, Afghanistan never looked ahead of Team India except in the first over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed 13 runs with the help of 2 sixes in the first 6 balls against Arshdeep Singh.
  • But then Jasprit Bumrah came in the second over and got him caught by the wicketkeeper on the first ball by changing the pace.
    After Gurbaz was out, there was a flurry of wickets.
  • Ibrahim Zadran was given a reprieve by Virat Kohli when he was on 6 runs, but he could not take advantage of it. He was dismissed by Axar Patel in the very next over.
  • Hazratullah Zazai (2), Gulbadin Naib (17), Azmatullah Omarzai (26) got off to a good start and half of the Afghanistan team was out at 71.

IND vs AFG: Jasprit Bumrah is the hero

  • After 15 overs, the Afghan team was able to score only 101 runs, meaning they needed 81 runs in 5 overs.
  • From here the result became just a formality.
    Afghanistan lost 4 wickets within the next 40 runs.
  • Jasprit Bumrah once again proved to be the biggest hero of India's bowling. He took 3 wickets giving away just 7 runs in 4 overs.
  • Supporting him was Arshdeep Singh who picked up three wickets and the left-arm pacer also took a hat-trick in the 18th over.
  • Apart from this, Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel also got 1-1 wickets.
