Following their elimination from the first round of the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA, the Sri Lankan team came home on Wednesday, passing through strict security at Bandaranaike International Airport.

When Wanindu Haranga’s side arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport on Wednesday morning by EK-650 Emirates planes from Dubai, special security officers had been stationed both inside and outside the airport.

The team members utilized a special VIP “Silk Route” lounge, which cost USD 50 per person, rather than the customary arrival passage at the BIA, according to an airport spokeswoman.

Speaking to the media, skipper Hasaranga said that because of the team’s poor performance, they were eliminated in the first round.

“We are aware of what transpired. Our batting, bowling, and fielding all failed. I really apologize for this as the captain and as a player,” Hasaranga said.

After losing to Bangladesh and South Africa, Sri Lanka’s chances of moving on to the next round were destroyed when severe rain in Florida forced them to postpone their match against Nepal.

Their lone triumph came in their last group stage encounter against the Netherlands.

Following a terrible conclusion to their ICC T20 World Cup campaign, India will play Sri Lanka. India is slated to travel to Sri Lanka in July for three one-day internationals (ODIs) and as many twenty-one internationals.
