West Indies did not score a single run in 51 balls against England, a shameful record in T20 World Cup

Now two Super-8 matches have been played in T20 World Cup 2024. Both these matches were played by Group-2 teams, in which South Africa defeated America and England defeated West Indies. The host West Indies team lost against England by 8 wickets. The team also made a shameful record of playing the most dot balls in this match and due to this it also had to face defeat. Batting first against England, the West Indies team did not score a single run in 51 dot balls i.e. in about 9 overs of the innings.

West Indies broke their own record

West Indies got a chance to bat first, in which its batsmen were seen struggling against England. First, both the openers Johnson Charles and Brandon King started slowly in the powerplay. When King started hitting big shots, he got injured and had to leave the field. After this, Nicholas Pooran came to bat and he also started playing dot balls along with Charles. However, in the end, captain Rovman Powell and Sherfan Rutherford hit some big shots and the team somehow reached the score of 180. Despite this, the West Indies team played 51 dot balls in the entire innings.

This is the most dot balls played by any team in an innings in T20 World Cup after scoring 180 or more runs. Earlier also, this team had the record of playing the most dot balls. West Indies team played 50 dot balls against India in the 2016 edition and then the team scored 196 runs.

Dot ball result in defeat

Playing dot balls also affected the West Indies team. Due to this, the team could score only 180 runs, which could have gone up to 200 or even more. Captain Rovman Powell himself mentioned this. In an interview after losing the match, he said that his team could score 10-15 runs less, due to which the bowling was affected and the result was defeat. After this defeat, there is pressure on West Indies. Now it has only two matches left in the Super-8 and winning both of them is very important to reach the semi-finals.
