Kane Williamson said that New Zealand cannot afford to get ahead of themselves in their second Test against Australia at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

At the close of play on Day 2, the Black Caps took a lead of 40 runs with 8 wickets left in their second innings. Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra were their overnight batters, and Williamson said that the Kiwis have a long way to go to dominate Australia.

Williamson scored 51 runs off 107 balls with 6 fours before Pat Cummins accounted for his wicket. Latham, on the other hand, stayed not out on 65 runs off 154 balls with 7 fours.

After the hosts lost the early wicket of Will Young, Latham and Williamson brought their team back into the game with a partnership of 105 runs.

Plenty to do tomorrow

Williamson said that New Zealand need to build more partnerships to extend their lead. However, the skipper doesn't have a "real target" in mind and wants to "keep going".
