Zealand have started to make a comeback in their 2nd Test against Australia, although they have plenty of work to do with 3 days left in the match at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

At Stumps on Day 2, the Kiwis took a lead of 40 runs with 8 wickets left in their second innings. Trailing by 96 runs, the hosts lost the early wicket of Will Young after Mitchell Starc accounted for his prized scalp. | NZ vs AUS, 2nd Test scorecard However, Kane Williamson, playing his 100th Test, and Tom Latham put on 105 runs for the second wicket to take the Kiwis to a lead in their second innings. Williamson scored 51 runs before Pat Cummins castled him. However, Latham stayed not out on 65 off 154 balls with 7 fours. Along with him was Rachin Ravindra, who has a Test double hundred to his name. Earlier in the day, Matt Henry dominated the Australian batting line-up after he picked up a 7-wicket haul. Had he not bowled his heart out, the visitors could have taken a much bigger lead. Marnus Labuschagne was the only Australian batter who looked at ease in the middle. The right-hander, who has struggled for form in recent times, scored 90 runs from 147 balls with 12 fours. It only took a stupendous catch from Glenn Phillips at the point region to dismiss Labuschagne. Mitchell Starc and Cummins also made handy contributions lower down the order with knocks of 28 and 23 respectively. Nathan Lyon, who came in as a night-watchman on Day 1, made 20 runs off 27 balls with 3 fours. Even as Henry was the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis, Southee, Ben Sears and Phillips got one scalp apiece. Going into Day 3, New Zealand will be looking to set small goals and extend their lead as much as they can.
