New Zealand won their last match of the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 and ended the tournament with some happiness for their fans. In this Group C match in Trinidad, New Zealand defeated Papua New Guinea by 7 wickets. The star of New Zealand's victory was fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, who bowled amazingly and made a new record for the T20 World Cup by bowling all four maidens in 4 overs. Not only this, the team's veteran fast bowler Trent Boult also got a farewell with victory, for whom this was the last World Cup. At the same time, PNG left the tournament without winning this time too.
Both the teams were already out of the tournament and this was their last chance to show their strength. This match was more important for New Zealand, which had to face a shocking situation in this World Cup as the team was out of the race for Super-8 after losing two out of the first three matches. PNG, on the other hand, had come with the hope of an upset in their last match but it could not happen.
PNG batted first in this match and the entire team collapsed for just 78 runs in 19.4 overs. As expected, PNG's inexperienced batsmen could not stand in front of New Zealand's strong bowling, but the main reason for this was Lockie Ferguson's amazing bowling. Stormy pacer Lockie did not concede a single run in his spell of 4 overs and bowled all four overs maiden. He also took 3 wickets, which also destroyed PNG's hopes of crossing 100 runs. For only the second time in T20 International and for the first time in the World Cup, a bowler bowled all four overs maiden. The highest score for PNG was 17 runs, which was made by Charles Amini. Apart from Lockie, Trent Boult and Tim Southee also took 2-2 wickets each.
