New Delhi: Babar Azam is facing a lot of criticism after Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. The 2022 T20 World Cup finalists only managed to win two matches out of the four in the group stage and failed to qualify for the Super 8.
Babar Azam-led side lost their first match against the USA in a super over which shocked the entire cricketing fraternity. After that, the Men in Green lost their second match against arch-rivals India by 6 runs in a low-scoring thriller.
They won their next two matches against Canada and Ireland but failed to make it to the next round. India and USA advanced to the next stage from Group A. Babar Azam and Co. lost the first two matches from a winning position due to some poor captaincy decisions and on-field performances. The Pakistan skipper after the match said that the team didn’t lose because of one person, there are 11 players in the team and each of them has a role. “As a team, we did not play. I told you that we did not lose this because of one person.
We are losing as a team. I am not saying this because of one person. You are pointing out that because of the captain, I cannot play in every player’s place. There are 11 players and each of them has a role” Babar Azam in the post-match press conference. ‘I have not thought about it. The decision is on the PCB’: Babar Azam on continuing as captain Babar Azam left Pakistan’s captaincy after the team failed to qualify for the semi-final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. But PCB reappointed him as the captain of the white ball in March 2024. The Pakistan skipper said that when he left the captaincy then why did they decide to give it back? “When I had left it (after ODI World Cup), I thought that I shouldn’t be doing it now, that’s why I left it and I announced it myself.
Then when they gave it back to me, it was the decision of the PCB.” He also said that when he goes back to Pakistan, he will discuss everything with the board and if he has to leave the captaincy he will announce it openly. T20 World Cup 2024 Latest Updates
