Lucknow: Former Indian veteran opener Virender Sehwag has sharply criticized Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Let us tell you that under the captaincy of Azam, the Pakistani team failed to perform well in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and could not progress beyond the group stage. The Men in Green could not qualify for the Super-8 and their World Cup campaign is over. The Green Army lost the first two matches in the group stage and then won the last two matches but it was not enough and they are out.

Sehwag believes that Babar is not a player who can play big shots and hit sixes. In such a situation, his strike rate is also not good and he feels that a young player should be given a chance in place of Babar. Let us tell you that Azam could not perform well in this World Cup and he scored only 122 runs in 4 matches with a strike rate of 101.66 and this was also a major reason why the team could not even qualify for the next stage. Seeing such performance of Pakistan, he has given a big statement during a conversation on Cricbuzz.

He said, “Babar Azam is not a player who hits sixes. He hits sixes only when he spends time on the pitch and then plays some big shots against the spinner. I have never seen him use his feet against fast bowlers nor hit a six over the cover. His game does not include such shots because he plays ground shots and plays safe cricket. That is why his strike rate is also not good.”

Sehwag further said that “As a captain, you have to think whether his game is useful for the team or not. If the answer is no, then he should send himself to bat in the lower order and send a player up who can hit big shots in the first 6 overs and take the team to 50-60 runs. He may feel bad about what I say, but I feel that if the captain changes, then Azam does not even deserve a place in the T20 team. His game is not according to today's T20 cricket.”
