Pakistan captain Babar Azam  has not considered about resigning from his leadership role. Azam stated that any decision regarding his captaincy will only be made after discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The 2009 champions and the 2007 and 2022 runners-up failed to reach the Super 8 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and were eliminated from the tournament after losing their first two games against the USA and India.

“After returning to Pakistan, we will thoroughly discuss the events that transpired. And if I step down as captain, I will inform you of this decision openly, without any behind-the-scenes announcements. Whatever the outcome, it will unfold transparently before you,” Babar said.

According to Babar, the Pakistan Cricket Board re-appointed him as the skipper and they would decide whether he leads Pakistan or not.

“I had resigned from Pakistan’s captaincy after the ODI World Cup. The decision to appoint or remove the captain is with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). When I initially stepped down as captain, I felt I should no longer keep the role, so I announced my resignation. However, the PCB later decided to reappoint me as a skipper,” he added.

Babar also spoke about his batting for. He scored 120 runs in 4 matches in the T20 World Cup 2024.

“You need to analyze the playing conditions and understand the current demands. Tell me how many games have been played and the batting has been superb? Batters have struggled, but the key is to be proactive in addressing what the current situation requires. Ultimately it comes down to game awareness and applying common sense.”

Babar criticized the poor quality of pitches used during the USA leg. Players were dissatisfied with the drop-in pitches in New York, and the insufficient ground covers in Florida.

“The pitches in New York were ill-suited. The games were decided too often by the coin toss, with teams that won the toss frequently opting to bowl first. This gave the bowlers an unfair advantage, as the pitches lacked consistent bounce – sometimes the ball would lift sharply, while at other times it would barely rise,” he concluded.
