India started their campaign with a victory over Ireland, then secured a superb win over Pakistan and USA - all in New York to progress to Super 8 as Group A winners. Their last match of the group stages is against Canada on Saturday.
But ahead of the Canada match, reports have stated that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will be returning back to India from USA after the final match in the group stages. India went with four travelling reserves as backup for injuries - Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh.
T20 World Cup 2024: Why are Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan coming back to India?
Shubman Gill is coming back because India does have enough opening options at the moment. Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the bench and the BCCI thinks that will be enough for the team to deal with an unforeseen injury to the first team members. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are currently opening the batting for the Indian team.
Avesh Khan is also set to return to the country as the team management thinks they do have enough pace options. Including Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya, India have five seamer options, four of them are right-handed bowlers. Also with the Super 8 and next stages set to be played in West Indies, the spinners will have a bigger role.
Is Rinku Singh returning to India?
Rinku Singh is set to extend his stay with the Indian team as a travelling reserve. Along with Rinku, Khaleel Ahmed will also stay as reserve as India has only Arshdeep Singh as the left-handed pacer in the team.
