Afghanistan's team has looked different from all the teams in the T20 World Cup 2024. Under the captaincy of Rashid Khan, the team's bowlers have set the stage on fire. Afghanistan's team has played three matches in the West Indies and in all three matches, its bowlers bowled out the opposition team below 100, including the New Zealand team. Fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqui had the biggest hand in this brilliant performance of Afghanistan. He has created havoc in the powerplay with the new ball in this tournament. Farooqui has taken a total of 12 wickets in 3 matches so far and now the 14-year-old record is on his target.
Fazalhaq Farooqi has been seen in a different color in this tournament. Especially, he has wreaked havoc on the batsmen with the new ball. On June 14, Farooqi took two consecutive wickets in the third over of the powerplay against Papua New Guinea (PNG). With this, his total number of wickets in the powerplay has become 9 and he has become the second bowler to take the most wickets in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. By taking two more wickets in the powerplay, he will break the 14-year-old Dirk Nannis record. This Australian fast bowler took 10 wickets during the powerplay in the 2010 T20 World Cup.
Farooqi took 3 wickets for just 16 runs in 4 overs against PNG. Now his total number of wickets in the tournament has become 12, due to which he has remained the highest wicket-taker since the first match. Farooqi is far ahead in terms of economy, strike rate and average in this tournament. He has given runs at an economy of only 3.5, while his average is 3.7. Farooqi has also taken wickets in almost every over in this tournament.
Afghanistan's bowlers have dominated the T20 World Cup 2024. In the opening match of the tournament, they bundled out Uganda for 58. At the same time, Afghanistan had also bowled out a big team like New Zealand for 75 and now the PNG team has been bundled out for just 98 runs. Apart from Farooqi, captain Rashid Khan himself has bowled brilliantly and has taken 6 wickets in three matches at an economy of only 4.5.
