Suresh Raina named the next captain of KKR

KKR has to take an important leadership decision in the IPL 2027 season. The franchise has endured two disappointing campaigns in a row and will now have to identify a new captain following Rahane’s retirement. Several names have emerged as possible options, including hardik pandya And KL Rahul He has been linked with a possible transfer to the Kolkata-based franchise.

However, Raina believes that KKR do not need to look outside their current setup.

He further requested the franchise to give more responsibility to Rinku, rather than immediately looking for an established captain from another team.

This is his fourth season and fourth final with Meerut Mavericks. KKR is looking for a captain, but I think they have already found one. They should invest in Rinku Singh and let him play some matches. You never know,” Raina said in a video shared by the UPT20 league.

Leadership record strengthens Raina’s case

Raina’s recommendation comes after Rinku’s impressive series of leadership performances at the domestic level. The batsman recently led Meerut Mavericks to the UPT20 title in 2026, adding another successful campaign to his growing leadership experience.

This victory was especially significant as Rinku had already led the Mavericks to the final in the previous edition. Reaching title matches in consecutive seasons highlights his ability to handle responsibility while still performing on the field.

His captaincy experience extends beyond the UPT20. Rinku has led Uttar Pradesh in domestic competitions, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, giving her experience of different formats and challenging match conditions.

Long association with KKR

Rinku also has the advantage of knowing the KKR setup very well.

He joined the franchise in 2018 and gradually became one of their most reliable and recognizable players.

His memorable performances in Kolkata colors have endeared him to the fans, while his contribution to the franchise’s IPL 2024 title-winning campaign has further cemented his position in the team.

So, KKR’s decision for 2027 could depend on whether they prefer an experienced outside leader or opt to develop someone already associated with the franchise.
