Rohit Sharma’s future will be discussed when the officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)  meet for a review meeting. The 39-year-old wants to play the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, but the Indian Cricket Board and the selectors are not on the same page over his association with the team.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir would have a conversation on Rohit’s future.

VVS Laxman, the chief of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill and T20I captain Shreyas Iyer could also join the meeting for discussions on various issues to Indian cricket.

During the England ODI series in July, it was reported that the selection panel was not in favour of taking Rohit to the global tournament and the Lord’s ODI would be his last. However, the BCCI rejected the claim, leading to speculation of a possible rift between the board and the selectors.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had told IANS on July 10 about the possible review meeting after the England tour. The stakeholders were supposed to discuss the poor performances in T20Is in Ireland and England. The ODI series defeat was also not taken lightly by the top brass. However, it was postponed due to the tour of Zimbabwe and the Test series in Sri Lanka.

The injury crisis will also be discussed as some of the top players are missing from action. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy are out due to injuries.

Although Bumrah, Rana, Sundar and Harshit have been named in the squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, their availability is subject to fitness. However, there is no information or clarity on Hardik’s comeback to the national squad.
