A stunning century from Shimron Hetmyer has set up Guyana Amazon Warriors to extend their unbeaten streak in the ongoing CPL 2026 tournament.
They secured a narrow 9-run victory (DLS Method) in the rain-affected game against Trinbago Knight Riders, played in Trinidad. By this win, Guyana Amazon Warriors retained their second spot in the CPL 2026 Points Table.
Being invited to bowl first, Warriors’ Glenn Phillips and Matthew Nandu opened the innings while Hosein opened the attack.
Hosein bagged the wicket of Phillips for a duck, while Lahiru Kumara bagged the wicket of Shai Hope for 16 runs.
Rain interrupted the game as it was reduced to 16 overs each.With Matthew Nandu and Shimron Hetmyer at the crease, Guyana Amazon Warriors copped up only 28 runs in the powerplay.
Nandu got retired hurt after scoring 13 runs off 21 deliveries. Despite Mohammad Nabi and Quentin Sampson losing wickets at the interval, Shimron Hetmyer went on to fire a quick fifty and continued to reach his ton, which is his second CPL hundred.
His century came in the 16th over; he scored 111 runs off 43 deliveries and remained unbeaten by the end of their innings.
Romario Shepherd fired a quick 7-ball 27 runs as the side scored 185 runs in their innings. Akeal Hosein, Sunil Narine, Lahiru Kumara and Usman Tariq bagged one wicket each.
Chasing the 182 target (DLS method), Colin Munro and Sunil Narine opened the innings, where the latter got dismissed for 1 run by Dwaine Pretorius.
Colin Munro did not make much of a contribution, scoring only 22 runs off 18 deliveries. However, with Nicholas Pooran and Alex Hales at the crease, Knight Riders went on to score 52 runs in the powerplay.
Pooran scored 43 runs while Alex Hales added 55 runs off 24 deliveries before being dismissed by Mohammad Nabi and Shamar Joseph.
Jyd Goolie and Justin Greaves’ cheap dismissals have put the Riders on the back seat during the chase. Akeal Hosein scored 18 runs off 11 deliveries before being dismissed by Khary Pierre.
With Dominic Drakes (14*) and Joshua Da Silva (13*) at the crease, Trinbago Knight Riders scored 172 runs, but Amazon Warriors won by 9 runs.
Mohammad Nabi bagged three wickets, while Dwaine Pretorius, Shamar Joseph, Imran Tahir and Khary Pierre bagged one wicket each.
Shimron Hetmyer was named player of the match. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Hetmyer said, “I’m good. It’s just a little bit of cramp. It’s been a while since I’ve actually batted that long, so my body still has to adjust to it.”
