South Zone batter Tilak Varma on Monday scored a century during day two of the Duleep Trophy semifinal against North Zone.

This was Tilak’s eighth career First-Class ton, which he completed in 218 balls with six boundaries.

The southpaw showed great restraint through his innings, salvaging South Zone from 90 for five. He struck a 175-run partnership with Shreyas Gopal for the sixth wicket which laid the platform for South to take a 90-run lead.

Tilak even braved a shoulder injury during play after being struck by Gurnoor Brar bouncer. But he carried on after receiving treatment from the team physio and put his team ahead.

The 23-year-old had also notched up a century during the Duleep Trophy two years back. However, his last two First-Class tons came for Hampshire in the County Championship in England.
