Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Tuesday picked two wickets for East Zone in the second innings of the side’s quarterfinal against North East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The 15-year-old, who bowls left-arm orthodox, picked the wickets of Kishan Lyngdoh and Imliwati Lemtur. He had figures of two for 11 from three overs.

Both wickets came in the same over. Lyngdoh tried to heave Sooryavanshi through the on side, but fluffed the hit and was caught at mid-wicket. Lemtur tried a front-footed defence three balls later and handed an edge to Ishan Kishan behind the stumps.

The two scalps nudged East Zone closer to an innings win, with North East left reeling at 79 for seven. It had been bundled out for just 111 runs in the first innings in response to East Zone’s massive 467.

Sooryavanshi, however, had missed out with the bat on the first day, falling for just eight runs after picking back-to-back boundaries and looking for a third one.
