Glenn Phillips will not only be looking to wrap up New Zealand's series against India on a high note when he takes strike in this Sunday's match at Seddon Park but also he will go down in history.

The electric New Zealand batter who smashed 107 runs in only 49 balls in the fourth T20I at Eden Park has turned an already incredible series into a record-breaking run. Having scored 276 runs in four games, Phillips is now on the brink of making his mark in the international T20 scene as he looks to break many records.

The Ultimate Bilateral Crown: Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips' main goal on Sunday is to hit the world record for the highest number of personal runs in a bilateral T20I series.

Phil Salt of England holds the record after hitting 331 runs against the West Indies in late 2023. Phillips only has to score 56 runs in Hamilton to take the crown.

If he can score 24 runs or more, he will be only the third player in T20I history to score 300+ in a bilateral series.

player Country runs Matches Opposition Year
Phil Salt England 331 5 West Indies 2023
Mohammed Rizwan Pakistan 316 6 England 2022
Sahil Chauhan estonia 297 6 Cyprus 2024
Mark Chapman new zealand 290 5 Pakistan 2023
Babar Azam Pakistan 285 7 England 2022
Glenn Phillips* new zealand 276 4 India 2026

Chasing personal and elite milestones

Besides the world record, there are several other major milestones for Phillips to target in Sunday's decider:

All-time bilateral king for New Zealand: Phillips is just 15 runs away from surpassing teammate Mark Chapman (290 runs against Pakistan in 2023) and becoming the highest run scorer in a bilateral T20I series in New Zealand history.

50+ club: Should Phillips score another fifty, he will have four scores of fifty or more in the series. Only two batsmen in history, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan and Japan's Sabaorish Ravichandran, have scored four scores of fifty or more in a bilateral T20I series.

India nemesis: With his current total of 276 runs, Phillips has already secured the record for the most runs scored by any batter in a T20I series against India.

A high-pressure game

Phillips has already delivered a master class of power-hitting in Auckland; however, all eyes will be on the 29-year-old middle-order batter in Hamilton.

If Glenn Phillips continues his blistering form in Seddon Park's batter-friendly conditions, we could see one of the most historic individual displays in T20 international cricket history on Sunday afternoon.
