Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his woes in red-ball cricket, losing his wicket to a four-ball duck during India A's second unofficial Test match against New Zealand A at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 31, 2026. New Zealand A pacer Fraser Sheat dismissed the left-hander lbw in the first over of the innings.
This is Jaiswal's fourth duck in his last nine innings since the Indian tour of Sri Lanka in August 2026. The senior team will play a two-Test series against New Zealand later in November, and his poor performances have raised questions about his form going into the international match.
India A were made to work hard after losing early wickets, but a key partnership between Devdutt Padikkal (80 from 140) and Sai Sudharsan (41 from 63) helped them rebuild their innings with 91 being put on for the second wicket.
Captain Dhruv Jurel chipped in with an unbeaten 99 to steer the lower order. Akash Deep chipped in with an unbeaten 25 to see India A to 291/7 from 88 overs at the close of Day 1.
New Zealand A won the toss and chose to bat first, with Fraser Sheet taking the early wicket of Jaiswal in the first over. However, they found their feet quickly.
Jaiswal has struggled since the start of India's tour to Sri Lanka in August. In the second innings of the first Test at Galle, he scored a duck and was only able to score 77 runs in total across the drawn series. This was after scoring a duck against SLC XI in a warm-up match.
He then struggled when returning to domestic cricket. He scored a duck against Chandigarh for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in October (13 balls). In the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A, he scored just 17 and 5.
After scoring a duck in Christchurch he hasn't managed a half-century in red-ball cricket and has struggled to get back into his groove.
India's senior Test team will face New Zealand starting on the 19th of November 2026 at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Jaiswal will be looking to get back into his batting groove in the remaining matches.
The left-handed batsman is currently playing three unofficial tests against New Zealand A (October 24-November 10). This will help him build up some good time at the crease.
Jaiswal has struggled in recent white-ball fixtures. He was named in the squad for the 3-match ODI series against West Indies in October but didn't play. He has also missed out on being named in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand, which will start in Auckland on the 4th of November.
Therefore, these remaining matches may prove to be crucial for Jaiswal. His performance in the second innings of the Christchurch match will be important as he looks to move past his recent disappointing performances.
