Delhi:The decision to keep Indian cricket team's young opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi out of the playing eleven in the fourth T20 International against New Zealand has become a topic of discussion. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has expressed his displeasure over this decision of the team management and has raised many questions. He believes that Vaibhav should not be considered only as a batsman who provides opportunities in the absence of any player.
Star wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan could not play in the second and third T20 matches due to injury. Vaibhav was included in the team in his place. The young batsman scored 4 runs in the second match, while in the third match he scored 45 runs. After this, Ishaan returned in the fourth T20 and Vaibhav had to sit out of the playing eleven.
Aakash Chopra said about this decision on his YouTube channel, “In the last match, Abhishek had scored a century and Vaibhav had missed completing his half-century. Despite this, the batting of the Indian team was good. In such a situation, the question was that which player would be dropped when Ishaan became fit. If we look only from the perspective that Vaibhav had replaced Ishaan, then it was natural to drop him, but this match was a dead rubber of the series.”
Chopra further said, “Will Vaibhav Suryavanshi be played only when another player is injured or unavailable? If that is the case, then he should be sent home and allowed to play first-class cricket. He will definitely learn from being in the Indian dressing room, but instead of making him sit out for a long time, he should get a chance to play on the field.”
He demanded the team management to give a clear plan regarding Vaibhav's future. According to Chopra, “The team should come forward and tell what are their thoughts and plans regarding Vaibhav. It is possible that they have already made a strategy, but no one is aware of it. In such a situation, it is disappointing to see Vaibhav sitting out.”
It is noteworthy that Ishan Kishan returned in the fourth T20I, but he was out without opening the account. While chasing the target of 260 runs, the Indian team could score only 172 runs for 9 wickets.
