New Zealand have suffered a blow in their T20I series against India after fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was ruled out of the remainder of the fixtures due to a right calf injury. Matt Fisher has been drafted into the squad.
Ferguson suffered the injury in the second T20I at Hagley Oval. Scans showed he had a minor grade tear to his right calf, and NZC confirmed on Thursday that the pacer will likely require more time to fully recover. New Zealand are looking to put in a strong show to wrap up the series after India took control with a three-game lead.
India's strong batting attack has certainly kept the New Zealand bowlers on their toes throughout the series, scoring an impressive total of 225 in game one, 180 in game two and a blistering 200 in 13.2 overs in game three.
While Santner and Bracewell have given them some control and containment from their spin attack, New Zealand have struggled to hold India back. They are also lacking Ferguson with their pace attack.
Fisher has helped give New Zealand some more options when using their bowling resources.
New Zealand have also confirmed some news regarding Matt Henry. The fast bowler suffered pain in his right quad during game two. Further tests concluded he had suffered a mild tear and is out for one to two weeks.
He is still set to return for the upcoming ODI series as his recovery time is being managed well.
Kyle Jamieson will stay in Wellington to manage his workload. He can play for Canterbury in their second round of Ford Trophy on Saturday, but will return to the squad on Monday.
The fourth T20I is set to take place at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday. The match is currently sold out.
India will be looking to continue their dominance and extend their winning streak after securing an unassailable lead in the series. New Zealand will be looking to put in a better performance in front of their home fans.
As Ferguson and Henry are both out for the next couple of games, New Zealand will be looking for the right mix of bowlers to try and stop India's destructive batting attack.
