Delhi: The third and decisive match of the three-match Test series between Australia and South Africa will be played in Cape Town from October 27. Before this match, Australian opener Travis Head has supported Steve Smith. He expressed hope that Smith will perform brilliantly in the upcoming match. Head believes that Smith's past record in big matches will inspire him to play better.
Other news – In the first test, Indian team was limited to 113 runs, 5 batsmen were out for zero.
The first two matches of the current series have not been good for right-handed veteran batsman Steve Smith. He was worried about his injury after being hit by a ball on his helmet in the first Test. A few days later, he also had neck problems during the second test. The effect of these problems is also visible on his batting. Till now he has not been able to cross the 30 run mark in any innings.
Smith's average in four innings is currently 20.75. If his bat does not work even in the decisive match, it could be one of the worst averages of his career in a series consisting of at least three Test matches.
Travis Head said that the team stands with Smith and hopes that he will find his rhythm soon. Giving the example of the 2019 Ashes series, he said that Smith had batted well despite the opposition from the audience when he returned to England after the ban.
According to Head, “He will be fine. I think he proved that in England in 2019. It will be great to have a good environment in Cape Town. We support him. He has been through a lot and handles these situations well. Sometimes pressure brings out the best in him.”
For your information, let us tell you that the Cape Town ground is very special for Smith. He played an important role in Australia's memorable victory by scoring 84 runs on the same ground in 2014. Now the team will once again expect similar performance from him, so that Australia can make a strong comeback by winning the decisive match of the series.
