Cricket Australia has banned veteran seamer Megan Schutt for two games after the 33-year-old failed to abide by the regulations for the use of prescribed medicines. The bowler, who played the home ODI series against Bangladesh, will miss one international game and the start of Women’s Big Bash League as well.
Cricket Australia put out a statement which read: “The breach was failure to adhere to requirements under the sports science and sports medicine guidelines with regard to prescribed medication. This breach relates to a single incident while out of competition, and wasn’t for performance enhancing purposes.”
The player, for her part, put out a statement which read: “Fully accept the penalty handed down and apologize for failing to meet the standards expected of me. I am sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I’ve received.”
Her statement also read “While this occurred out of competition and wasn’t performance , understand that I am responsible for following the sports science and sports medicine guidelines, which players receive regular education on; and I should have adhered to those guidelines.”
The 33-year-old has been one of the premier pacers in the world since her debut in 2012 across all formats. Schutt has played 126 T20I games and picked up 152 wickets with a best of 5/15 and an economy rate of 6.39 runs per over.
She has also played 114 ODI games and taken 158 wickets with one fifer, and further nine wickets from four Test matches. In the recent home ODI series against Bangladesh, the pacer claimed ten wickets with two four-wicket hauls in Brisbane.
Her last game in the T20I format was against Bangladesh during the 2026 WT20I World Cup in Leeds. The bowler delivered just two overs, didn’t get any wickets, and didn’t play the rest of the tournament, which the Aussies went on to win after beating England in the final.
