The 5th T20I was called off due to the rain in Bengaluru
IND vs WI, LIVE Score, 5th T20I: Persistent rain had the final say as India’s fifth T20I against West Indies in Bengaluru was called off, denying both teams a chance to settle the series. After hours of weather interruptions delayed the start, the contest was reduced to nine overs per side. West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and elected to bowl first. India made an explosive start, reaching 118/5 in 7.4 overs before rain returned to halt play. Ishan Kishan smashed 30 off 10 balls, while Naman Dhir remained unbeaten on 24 off six. With the showers refusing to relent, officials abandoned the match, leaving the five-match series tied 2-2.
The match has now officially been called off as the rain in Bengaluru has played a massive spoilsport. Only 7.4 overs were played, as the West Indies did not have the opportunity to chase the target. The match ends in a no-result, and the series ends in a 2-2 draw as both captains will share the trophy.
The official update from the ground is that the match has to begin at 10.21 PM for a five-over contest.
If the match does begin, then West Indies need to chase 85 in 5 overs. However, judging by the rain, it looks highly unlikely that the match will begin.Oct 17, 2026, 10:11:37 PM IST
Oh no!! The rain Gods have come back in Bengaluru, just as India were providing some late momentum in what was a run feast.
The rain is getting heavier by the minute, as it looks like India’s innings might have come to an end prematurely, even as we wait for official confirmation. India have scored 118/5 at the end of 7.4 overs.Oct 17, 2026, 9:59:45 PM IST
The runs are now continuing to flow once again for India, and this time it is courtesy Naman Dhir.
The all-rounder, who made his debut in this series itself, hit some lusty blows as India are now 100 up with two overs remaining. A score close to 130 or even beyond that is definitely on the cards.Oct 17, 2026, 9:54:37 PM IST
West Indies have stemmed the Indian run-flow, as they are not being able to score runs, especially at the rate that Ishan Kishan was scoring them in. Wickets are also continuing to tumble, with Shreyas Iyer becoming the fourth to fall.

India have now lost their third wicket of the night, as Shamar Springer gets his first scal. In going for big runs, Sanju Samson goes all out, as the ball goes right through the gap between his bat to hit the stumps. Tilak Varma and Shreyas Iyer will now look to continue the momentum that was set earlier by Ishan Kishan.

In a 9-over contest, a half-century or a ton does not matter. It is the quick impactful knocks that will make the difference at the end of the match. Ishan Kishan played this exact knock. He slammed 30 runs from just 10 balls, in an innings studded with 3 fours and 2 sixes. He was dismissed by Shamar Joseph.

Ishan Kishan has taken the mantle of hitting the big shots and getting India to a strong total after Abhishek Sharma got out. In the second over of the contest, he hit 24 off Romario Shepherd. The shots came flying off his bat with relative ease.

In a 9-over contest, batters are expected to go big right from the first ball itself. Abhishek Sharma did exactly that. He did managed to get a big hit for a six, but then perished in the very next ball of the first over, as he hit the ball straight into the hands of Shamar Joseph while attempting yet another boundary.

According to an official update from BCCI, “Nitish Kumar Reddy was not available for selection in the fifth T20I against West Indies due to illness.” Hence, Shivam Dube is playing in place of the all-rounder.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to the India playing XI for the first time in four years, and he does so in the very ground where he laid the ground for his comeback in the IPL for the last two years. He might prove handy as he knows the conditions inside out, and can check runs in a game that will see batters going for the kill.

Good news from Bengaluru!! The rain has officially stopped and covers are coming off. The ground is set to dry up quickly given the subair system. If such conditions persist, then the match between India and West Indies will officially take place, albeit with overs being cut off.

Beneath the outfield of the Chinnaswamy Stadium lies an underground network of drains, pipes, and tubes with tiny holes. These connect in a closed loop to a central machine called the SubAir system. When it rains, this network quickly pulls excess water off the field and moves it into a nearby tank or drain. This system, prevalent in some of the leading football stadiums around the world, was first introduced in India in the Chinnaswamy.

The cut-off time for a full match to proceed was 7.45 PM IST. With that officially over, and the rain showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, the match is now officially set to lose overs. We now have to wait till 9.41 pm to see if the match will be played at all.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has not been given a game in this T20I series against West Indies. However, with game all set to be truncated, it might be the perfect opportunity to play him given his tendency to go slam bang from the first ball. However, does that mean India will drop the in-form Sanju Samson down the order? A massive selection headache awaits for the Men in Blue.

The rain is continuing to drizzle in Bengaluru. The drainage system will dry up the Chinnaswamy in minutes. But for that, the rain needs to stop first. Here is the latest visual from the ground.

According to the official scorer, there is a 30-minute cut-off time for full game to take place. Hence, if the game starts by 7.30 pm IST, then a full 20-overs-a-side match will take place. After that, we will start losing overs. However, a minimum of a 5-over-a-side match will have to take place. For that to begin, the match needs to start by 9.4 PM IST. If the match is further delayed, then it will be called off.
Oct 17, 2026, 6:55:57 PM IST
Updates from the people in Bengaluru say that the rain is not heavy but just a light drizzle that refuses to die down. This is even more frustrating for both players and the fans. Now, everyone will be hoping and praying that the rain stops, the world-class drainage facilities of Chinnaswamy come into play, and we get a full game.
Oct 17, 2026, 6:38:48 PM IST
The toss has been delayed in Bengaluru due to the incessant rainfall. Visuals show that it is still raining. Hence, the match might be delayed as well. However, the good news is that Bengaluru has one of the best drainage systems in the world. The SubAir system ensures that the ground is dried up within minutes after the rain stops.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been included in the squad after four years for the final T20I in Bengaluru. He has been added Arshdeep Singh, after the left-arm pacer suffered a blow to his shoulder while batting in the 4th T20I. With the series hanging in the balance, the question is whether the veteran will be handed a comeback.
