The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced squads for the five-match ODI series and two Tests against New Zealand. Shubman Gill will lead the Men in Blue in the first three ODIs, while his deputy Shreyas Iyer is set to take charge for the last two fixtures of the bilateral assignment. Gill will start preparations for the red-ball matches midway through the one-day internationals, opting out of the last two games.

Shubman is also the Test skipper, and India need to win both Tests to keep their WTC Final hopes alive. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be available for the ODI series, having retired from Tests and T20Is.

Bengal pacer Akash Deep has been recalled for the two five-day games, while wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra received his maiden call-up for the fourth and fifth ODIs.

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will miss the ODI series but is a part of the Test squad. Hardik Pandya was not considered for the ODIs, considering his fitness issues.

Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are the two wicket-keepers in the Test squad, with the former’s participation subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the team for the first three ODIs, while Prasidh Krishna’s availability for the first three ODIs is subject to fitness clearance.

Mohammed Shami was once again snubbed.  The ODI will start on November 4, while the Test matches are scheduled to be played from November 19.
