Indian T20 team captain Shreyas Iyer has praised the talent of young opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. 15-year-old Vaibhav has opened the innings for India in the semi-finals and final of the Asian Games. Whereas, Sanju Samson came to bat at number three in these matches. Vaibhav is now also a part of the Indian team for the five-match T20 International series against West Indies. Shreyas Iyer believes that Vaibhav Suryavanshi has the potential to make a big impact on Indian cricket. However, he also indicated that there should be no haste in giving big responsibility to this young player in the team.

According to Iyer, Vaibhav will get his role and opportunities at the right time.

Iyer talks about life, not cricket, with Vaibhav

While talking to Geostar before the T20 series against West Indies, Shreyas Iyer said that he often tries to talk to Vaibhav on topics other than cricket. He said that everyone talks to Vaibhav about cricket, so he talks with him about family, lifestyle and other general things. Iyer said that he keeps talking to Vaibhav on things outside the field. According to him, this is because everyone talks to the young player only about cricket.

Iyer said that Vaibhav is a talented and capable player, but he feels more comfortable when talking to him about things like family, lifestyle and everyday life.

‘You will get a chance at the right time’

Shreyas Iyer also clarified that due to the presence of experienced players in the team, Vaibhav’s current role should not be seen as a disbelief in his ability. There are already established opening batsmen in the Indian team, hence young players are gradually being given the opportunity to progress in the environment of international cricket.

Vaibhav had opened for India in the semi-finals and final of the Asian Games. In these matches, the Indian team performed brilliantly and won the gold medal. Now Vaibhav has also been included in the team for the five-match T20 series against West Indies. It is clear from Iyer’s statement that the team management is positive about Vaibhav’s talent, but keeping in mind his development, does not want to rush in giving him responsibilities. The upcoming series will be another opportunity for the young batsman to prove himself in international cricket. After winning the gold medal in the Asian Games, the Indian team is now eyeing the T20 series against West Indies. The team management will be faced with the challenge of maintaining continuity in the series as well as giving experience to the young players at the international level.
