India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the third and final ODI against West Indies after suffering a hamstring injury during the second match of the series in Guwahati. The pacer had to leave the attack midway through the contest and will miss the final of the series.
As reported by India Today, Krishna was pulled out after bowling just three overs in the second ODI, during which he gave away 45 runs. The news comes as a blow to India's fast bowling attack, which has been struggling in the ongoing three-match series.
The conditions have proven tough on the fast bowlers, with the high humidity and blistering heat being especially challenging. India have bowled first in both ODIs so far, meaning their pace attack has had to contend with the hot sun during the opening innings.
Krishna had completed his full quota of 10 overs in the first ODI but was unable to bowl in the second match. The Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak later confirmed that the pacer had picked up a niggle and was due to undergo scans on Thursday, October 1.
Sources cited by India Today have now reported that Krishna has suffered a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of the third ODI. The severity of the injury and recovery time are yet to be officially confirmed by the BCCI.
The injury adds to India's recent issues with their fast bowlers. Nitish Reddy was sidelined for a period recently, while Hardik Pandya has been out of professional cricket since the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been called up to the Indian squad as a replacement for the injured Prasidh Krishna, who has been ruled out of the third and final ODI against West Indies. The player will not accompany the team to New Chandigarh, where the series decider is scheduled on October 3.
Kamboj was at India A before being recalled by the national side. In his last outing for the unit, the pacer bowled 17.3 overs in the first innings and put up a handy 3/34. He followed it up with a two-over spell that saw him concede just three runs in the second innings.
The 24-year-old left the India A camp on Thursday, after he was called up as Krishna's replacement. His recent performance has given him a chance to stake a claim for a spot in India's ODI squad.
Kamboj also had a productive 2026 Indian Premier League campaign, finishing as Chennai Super Kings' leading wicket-taker during the season. At international level, the pacer has appeared just once in Test cricket, making his debut against England in Manchester in July 2025.
The upcoming ODI, however, could potentially mark Kamboj's first appearance for India in white-ball cricket.
Kamboj's inclusion in the squad does not necessarily guarantee him a place in India's playing XI for the decider. Mohammed Siraj was included in the ODI squad but was left out of the first two matches, and he is the most likely option to replace Krishna in the XI.
There is, however, a possible route for Kamboj could make his ODI debut. If the team management decides to leave out Auqib Nabi Dar after his debut in the second ODI, India could potentially accommodate Kamboj alongside Siraj in the pace attack.
India are leading the three-match series and will head into the New Chandigarh fixture on October 3, looking to secure another victory.
