DelhiAlthough Virat Kohli made many records during his innings of 139* off 88 balls in the first ODI International against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, but the most special and amazing record from the point of view of his style is that he hit 6 as the winning shot. At one time, experts thought that Virat had done this for the first time in his international cricket career, but the truth is that Virat had already led Team India to victory by scoring 6 in an international match 9 times.

See the full list:

1. vs New Zealand, Vadodara, ODI International: On December 4, 2010, for the first time, Virat won an international match by hitting a six. He was only 22 years old then. Chasing New Zealand's score of 224/9 in the third ODI, India was close to victory thanks to Gautam Gambhir's 126* when Virat (63*) hit a 6 off Andy McKay and sealed the win by 9 wickets.

2. Against Sri Lanka, Ranchi, ODI: On 16 November 2014, Sri Lanka scored 286/8 and India were 14/2 in reply but Virat scored 139* off 126 balls and kept the hopes alive despite the loss of wickets.

13 runs were needed from 12 balls, then Ajanta Mendis hit two 6s in one over and won the second one. India made a clean sweep of the series 5-0.

3. vs New Zealand, Dharamshala, ODI International: In Hardik Pandya's debut match on 16 October 2016, Indian bowlers bowled out New Zealand for just 190 runs. To win, Virat scored 85* off 81 balls while chasing the target. MS Dhoni was at the other end and won in the 34th over. Then Virat hit the winning 6 on the ball of Ish Sodhi.

4. vs West Indies, Kingston, ODI International: Chasing the target on 6 July 2017, Virat played another brilliant innings at Sabina Park. West Indies made 205/9 and Shikhar Dhawan's early dismissal put pressure on India. Virat then responded by scoring 111* (his 28th ODI 100), and Dinesh Karthik supported him. Kohli scored 100 in 108 balls and then ended the match in spectacular fashion by hitting his second 6 off Roston Chase.

5. vs England, Manchester, T20 International: On July 3, 2018, Virat did not play a big innings but completed the victory in a spectacular manner.

England made 159/8. After this, KL Rahul scored 101* off 54 balls and India moved rapidly towards the target. Kohli remained at 20* off 22 balls but achieved the target by hitting a six off Moeen Ali.

6. vs West Indies, Hyderabad, T20 International: Made perhaps the most spectacular T20 International chase possible on 6 December 2019. West Indies scored 207/5 and India were 96/1 after 11 overs, needing 208 runs. Then Virat, showing tremendous aggressive play, scored 94* in just 50 balls which included 6 sixes.

Hit the winning 6 off Kesrick Williams and completed one of the best T20 International chases.

7. vs Sri Lanka, Indore, T20 International: Sri Lanka's score of 142/9 on 7 January 2020 did not seem enough. KL Rahul's 45 runs provided an excellent start while Shreyas Iyer and Virat followed. Virat remained on 30* in which he gave victory by sending Lahiru Kumara's ball across the boundary for a six.

8. vs England, Ahmedabad, T20 International: In the second match of the series on 14 March 2021, Virat remained at 73* on 49 balls. England had scored 164/6. Ishan Kishan changed the course of the match by scoring a brilliant 56 runs in his debut match. In the end, Virat Kohli sealed the victory by playing a tremendous shot on the ball of Chris Jordan. The ball had fallen in the stands.

9. vs Bangladesh, Pune, 2023 ODI World Cup: This victory on 19 October 2023 was also special because Virat was trying to make two big records simultaneously. Bangladesh scored 256/8. India were in a strong position most of the time but in the last over, Virat needed 19 runs for his 48th ODI 100. Rahul kept giving him strikes deliberately and Virat completed his 100 by hitting 6 off Nasum Ahmed and India also got the victory. 103* off 97 balls was Virat's third World Cup 100.

10. vs West Indies, Thiruvananthapuram, 2026 ODI International: Chasing West Indies' score of 295/7 on 27 September 2026, Virat played a tremendous inning of 139* off just 88 balls which included a career-high 9 sixes in an ODI innings. Completed his 55th ODI 100 and also 15000 ODI runs. When only a few runs were needed to win, Virat hit two consecutive sixes off Casey Carty and the match ended with the second six.

Thus, having finished the match by hitting 6 10 times, he is now just three more matches short of MS Dhoni's record among Indian cricketers of doing so 13 times.
