The head coach of the Indian women's cricket team, Amol Muzumdar, stated that his players were thrilled to be a part of the unique atmosphere at the Asian Games after the defending champions arrived in Japan with the ambition to prolong their recent run of form. Fresh from winning the T20 Asia Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team will now strive to defend the gold medal won at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.

Speaking after arriving in Japan with his team and support staff on an early morning flight, Amol Muzumdar said that the team was eager to embrace the opportunity to participate in a multi-sport event. A few of the players flew along with him, while the remaining members of the team were expected to fly in later in the day. Pacer Kranti Gaur and spinner Shree Charani belonged to the few players to land with the coaching staff.

Amol Muzumdar expressed his enthusiasm that the players would get an opportunity to interact with athletes from different disciplines in the games village, and be a part of the overall ecosystem of the multi-sporting event.

“The team is really looking forward to being a part of the environment that a multi-sporting event offers. We want our players to soak in the experience as well,” Amol Muzumdar said.

The head coach also said that the team had no issues with the accommodation as India prepared to take on the challenge of the Asian Games.

India has won the T20 Asia Cup after a stunning win against Sri Lanka and has had several positive results in the last few matches, which has given the team confidence ahead of their Asian Games campaign. The team will look to continue their winning streak in Japan as they chase gold.

Shree Charani can play a vital role for India

Left-arm spinner Shree Charani has been one of the standout performers for India in their recent run. The 22-year-old bowler took four wickets against Sri Lanka to set up their win in the T20 Asia Cup final and finished the tournament with 12 wickets.

Charani's performances have helped her register some astonishing stats, including 50 wickets in 30 T20I matches.

The left-arm spinner has been in stunning form this year and could play a pivotal role as India begins their Asian Games campaign against the hosts Japan in the quarterfinals on September 18.

The women's cricket tournament will start directly from the quarterfinals as only eight teams have participated in the tournament. With the games already being held in Japan, the reigning champions would want to start on a winning note.
