South Africa wrapped up their ODI series against Namibia in emphatic fashion on Sunday, cruising to a nine-wicket win in the third match to complete a 3-0 clean sweep. Bjorn Fortuin set up the victory with a four-wicket haul before Jordan Hermann and Connor Esterhuizen powered through the chase with an explosive 150-run opening stand.
Maphaka, Bosch strike early for South Africa
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Namibia struggled to build momentum against South Africa's disciplined bowling attack. Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch made early inroads, reducing the hosts to 19/2.
Alexander Busing-Volschenk and Louren Steenkamp then attempted to rebuild the innings, putting together a 53-run partnership that briefly steadied Namibia. But their resistance was short-lived.
Fortuin triggers Namibia collapse
Fortuin broke the partnership in the 21st over by dismissing Steenkamp for 23. Namibia suffered another setback in the same over when Volschenk was run out for 31. Fortuin then struck again in his following over, removing Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus for just three runs. The spinner continued to run through the middle order, dismissing Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (4) and Waldo Smith (2) to finish with impressive figures of 4/33 from 10 overs.
Zane Green offered some resistance with a 33-ball effort from 42 deliveries, but Namibia were eventually bowled out for 156 in 36.2 overs. Maphaka finished with 2/18, while Bosch claimed 1/24.
Hermann, Esterhuizen make light work of chase
South Africa's response was emphatic. Openers Jordan Hermann and Connor Esterhuizen immediately put Namibia under pressure, attacking from the beginning and building a huge 150-run opening partnership in just 21 overs.
Hermann was particularly aggressive, smashing 13 boundaries during his 59-ball 77. He was eventually dismissed by Waldo Smith with South Africa needing only seven more runs for victory. Esterhuizen remained unbeaten on 68 off 68 balls, striking four fours and three sixes to anchor the chase.
Brevis seals nine-wicket victory in style
With just seven runs required, Dewald Brevis needed only two deliveries to finish the contest. The youngster launched his second ball for a six as South Africa reached 157/1 in 21.3 overs, winning by nine wickets with 29.3 overs still remaining.
The victory completed a comprehensive 3-0 ODI series win for South Africa. They had begun the series with a 99-run DLS victory in the opening ODI before producing an even bigger margin of victory in the second match, winning by 157 runs.
