Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the rest of the South Africa ODI series against Australia after suffering a hamstring injury during the opener.

Baartman bowled only five overs, did not bat in the second innings and will undergo further medical assessment to determine his rehabilitation time.

Meanwhile, Duan Jansen, who was with South Africa’s second-string squad in Namibia, has been named as a replacement. Jansen made his ODI debut in the ODI series against Namibia, which followed a tri-series.

Baartman will be the second player to miss out on the series after Kagiso Rabada, who missed the entire series due to a hamstring injury.

Cricket South Africa did not provide an exact time for his recovery and will take a call on availability for the three-match series starting on October 09.

Gerald Coetzee has been recalled to the squad while Anrich Nortje has been left out. Meanwhile, the rest of the pace attack features Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch.

South Africa heavily depends on Baartman, especially with 8 tests lined up for South Africa.

However, star batter Dewald Brevis has been left out of the squad as he will be preparing for the Test season, with featuring in first-class cricket. Aiden Markram will be available for the second and third ODIs.

The three-match ODI series will be played between September 24 and 30, with games in Durban, Johannesburg and Potchefstroom.
